Project 1 Reflection

Looking back on the construction of my first video project, I think the story that I chose somewhat hindered the development of a finished and satisfying product. The first issue with my story content was the lack of visual representations that I was able to find online. The story was focused so intently on a specific event, and this event happened to be one that is quite personal and traumatizing for the parties involved. This fact obviously made it difficult to find enough images/visuals to paint an accurate picture of the horrifying situation and do justice for those who were involved.

That being said, I think I was able to take what we have learned thus far about storytelling and apply some effects that enhanced what would have otherwise been a rather weak, mundane description of an event that was anything but that. I took notes from the “Designs of Meaning” interactive article, and tried to achieve a level of aesthetic dramatization that would better create the atmosphere that a retelling of this story deserves. The ominous music and stock video clips that I was able to find in the WeVideo archives I think heightened the quality of this attempt at digital storytelling, and while it most certainly fell short at times, the aesthetic cards in “Designs of Meaning” enabled me give the story more of the justice that it deserves.
